Everything I’ve Been Loving Lately
Since turning in AN EDUCATION IN MALICE to my editor (!) I’ve really been enjoying resting up by playing little puzzle games on my kindle, catching up on agency reading, and poking at a novella that may or may not ever seen the light of day. Sometimes, working on things without a deadline or a publication plan is an essential part of preserving your joy. But I really like this snippet I wrote for my erotic reliquary horror novella I’m languidly drafting, so I wanted to share it with you:
Aaron pressed his thumb against the plushness of Alma’s lower lip, and she opened her mouth for him. He hooked his thumb along the straight edge of her bottom teeth, pulling her closer like a bridled horse.
“You have such lovely teeth,” he mused, gazing down at her incisors, her delicately pointed canines. “I would cap them in gold and encrust them with rubies. Make a martyr out of you.”
He released her, leaving Alma with the salt and myrrh taste of his skin in her mouth. She gazed up at him, as desirous as she was defiant.
“I thought martyrs had to perform miracles. I’ve never turned water to wine or healed the sick, to my knowledge.”
“And what makes you think the effect you have on me is anything less than miraculous?” He murmured.
Is it even a Saint Gibson novel without yearning soaked in religious imagery?
Be safe and well until we two meet again, my friends. And keep your eyes peeled in March…I’ve got a very magical announcement coming straight to your inbox 🔮
