The Epistle
Kneel on the velvet cushions, take a steamy sip of the mystic brew, and enter into a trancelike state, dear readers. I’ve got a very cool Kickstarter announcement to share with you this month, a sneak peek at some exclusive DOWRY content, as well as some info about where you can catch me this month.
NEWS
UNTHINKABLE comes to Kickstarter
I’m super honored to be writing the introduction for a new anthology of queer gothic fiction, and we need your help to bring the project to life!
Haunt Publishing is uniting with Nyx Publishing to take on publication of UNTHINKABLE: A QUEER GOTHIC ANTHOLOGY, as well as its prequel anthology, UNSPEAKABLE. Both books will now be published under Haunt, with Celine Frohn from Nyx as editor. As some of you may recall, the first seeds of A DOWRY OF BLOOD were planted in the original UNSPEAKABLE anthology.
Launching in October 2022, UNTHINKABLE features everything from a Southern Gothic tale of destruction and revenge to haunted houses and cursed lovers to an eco-gothic saga, threaded through with themes of love and tragedy, life and death, all suffused with queerness.
If you want to support emerging and established queer voices in horror this Pride month, please consider backing! You can chip in as little as a dollar to show your support, or pledge more for some seriously awesome prizes.
Simply head over to the UNTHINKABLE kickstarter to back us! We’ve got a month to meet our goal and we can’t do it without you!
A DOWRY OF BLOOD exclusive
I teamed up with the Orbit Books squad to create something extra special for the promo campaign for the rerelease A DOWRY OF BLOOD. Three letters written by our brides to one another in the modern day, detailing their lives to one another. They’ve been flittering by post to select readers over the past week or so, but if you aren’t on the mailing list and would like to read the letters, you can do so at orbitbooks.net/a-dowry-of-blood. Orbit hired a real calligrapher to create the gorgeous script (with different handwriting for each character!), so hats off to @inkmothcreative!
Plus, I snuck a little hint about the setting of the companion novel in the DOWRY universe into these letters. Can you find it? 🦇
EVENTS
I’m going to be in conversation with my amazing new editor Nadia Saward next Sunday June 26th talking about — what else — queer vampires and polyamory! I’m so excited to be celebrating Orbit pride with a cozy chat with Nadia, and I would love to see you there! You can register for the conversation right here https://hachette-uk.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_7a-ohsPUQ9m1zkyFpRl01A
EVERYTHING I’VE BEEN LOVING LATELY
I’ve been a busy bee this month! I was lucky enough to spend Pride with dear old friends in New Orleans, and to eat some delicious Cajun food and wander the tree-lined streets of the French Quarter. I’ve also been reading more than usual, especially as I work through my backlog of full requests for my agenting job. One book stands head and shoulders above the rest, however.
HOUSE OF HUNGER
I recently devoured HOUSE OF HUNGER by Alexis Henderson, and I can’t recommend it enough. A decadent, depraved reimagining of the legend of Elizabeth Bathory set in a world where beautiful young women work as bloodmaids for aristocratic families, it ensnared my imagination. You should definitely preorder this one and add it to Goodreads!
That’s all I have for you this month, dear readers! Be safe and well until we two meet again.
