Welcome, dear reader! Turn the stovetop on high, and pour your favorite fragrant magical herbs and spices into the boiling water. I’ve got something exciting brewing for you behind the scenes today.
News
ODD SPIRITS is a prequel novella that takes place six months before the events of EVOCATION, exploring how Rhys and Moira met and what exactly David did to end up Rhys’ bad books. If you like haunted houses, marriage in trouble romances, and the opposites-attract trope, you aren’t going to want to miss this one! The wildly talented Eleonor Pietera, illustrator of the EVOCATION cover, is back to provide stunning interior illustrations.
You DO NOT need to read ODD SPIRITS to enjoy EVOCATION, however they do make for an excellent pairing.
ODD SPIRITS was the first book I ever self-published, and I’m excited to revisit it. This beautiful new edition will be fully edited for consistency and continuity as it becomes part of the larger Summoner’s Circle series, and it will also be professionally proofread and sensitivity read.
I’ve learned so much about pacing, POV, and sentence structure since originally publishing this book six years ago, and I’m eager to bring the story into alignment with the rest of my body of work. I’m particularly grateful I’m able to remove plotlines in which Moira was biphobic towards Rhys, and in which Rhys’ bisexuality was treated like a twist reveal. At time of writing, I thought I was Bravely Tackling Real World Issues, but I ended up just reinforcing stereotypes for the sake of shock value. Most authors never get the opportunity to revamp old work, so I’m thrilled that I’m so lucky.
This re-release wouldn’t exist without your sparkling enthusiasm for my work, so thank you so much for reading my books and boosting them on social media and telling your friends about them!
Sales
After some technical difficulties with the Barnes and Noble listing for EVOCATION (uhhh you guys apparently pre-ordered so many copies it crashed the listing) the book is live again for the last day of the 25% off sale! Use code PREODER25 for your discount, and don’t forget that members get an extra 10% off!
Events
The links for my UK tour are live! I hope to see some of your shining faces in person in just one more month and change! Some of the events have already sold out, so you may want to book your spot quick to ensure you don’t get left behind.
There will be one more UK event we haven’t announced yet, but I figured it would be better to get the links to you guys ASAP before they sell out instead of waiting for that final announcement! More to come from me soon.
Everything I’ve Been Loving Lately
I have a silly but earnest collection of things-I’m-into for you this week.
First up, I have finally found a skincare routine that works for me and have become religious about luxuriating in each step every night. I have acne-prone combination skin that has started showing those early 30s fine lines, but I am loving it back to health with the following routine: remove makeup with the Honest gel-to-milk makeup melt, cleanse with Clinique liquid facial soap, exfoliate twice a week with Glo brightening polish, pat on Provence immortal nightmilk serum, massage in Skin Zephyr strawberry milk vitamin E lotion (I’m looking for a slightly higher-end replacement for this atm), and then lock it all in with Clinique dramatically different moisturizer. Also, don’t ever skip your sunscreen in the morning before you go outside! Not sponsored, as always, just my pro tips.
I’ve also been watching Puppet History on Youtube, which is exactly what it sounds like: Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej of Buzzfeed Unsolved fame humorously recounting history via puppets, musical numbers, a gameshow format, unexpectedly deep lore, and the magic of theatre. It is impossible to be sad while watching this series.
I’ve also been getting back into both religion and the occult simultaneously, which are two complimentary spheres I orbit with various degrees of intensity pretty much always. I’ve been enjoying pulling my morning tarot cards, peeking at the astrological forecast for the day, reading up on historical saints, and experimenting with hermeticism. Trying to get myself to pony up and finally read at least some of Jung’s Red Book, too. I hope as the seasons turn you’re following the stirrings of your soul wherever they may lead you, with curiosity and open-heartedness.
That’s all I have for you this week, dear reader! As always, thank you for being here, and be so safe and well until we two meet again.
Glad to hear that Odd Spirits is being updated, especially as a frantic search of shelves has shown me that I've misplaced my copy somewhere. Other than learning my book organization is horrible, I'm now wondering if Robber Girl will also be getting a new release. Can't wait to read both the update and Evocation!
