Raise your voices in song and usher in the evening, all ye faithful. I’m back with another edition of The Epistle for you, full of good news and meandering musings.
Book News
Tantor Audio dropped a tasty little teaser of the A DOWRY OF BLOOD audiobook, and I for one am blown away. The narrator is absolutely perfect for Constanta, and she imbues every word of this book with sensuality and depth of feeling. I cannot wait to pop this book into my ears and experience several emotions at once. Listen to a snippet of Abby Craden’s masterful narration here.
A DOWRY OF BLOOD will be available across retailers in audiobook format on April 20, 2021. My sapphic Snow Queen retelling, ROBBERGIRL, will be available as an audiobook on July 20, 2021. Trust me when I say I’m just as excited as you all are to listen!
Everything I’ve Been Loving Lately
Twitter Hiatus
If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I am, regrettably, very online. I love being able to keep up on book news and connect with my friends through Twitter, and the platform has been mostly benevolent towards me in terms of hooking me up with career opportunities. However, some recent experiences put a bad taste in my mouth about the platform, so I’ve decided to take a step back and hunker down on Instagram (and maybe, MAYBE Tiktok, we shall see). Instagram is a better outlet to express my creativity and isn’t such a time suck, and I’m trying to be more present and engaged. You’re cordially invited to follow me if you’d like to keep in touch there!
Don’t worry, if you miss me on Twitter, I’m sure I’ll be back on the bird app sooner than later. I just need a little space to breathe. Also, the amount of time in my day hiatus has freed up is wonderful and frankly alarming.
You’re Wrong About: Princess Diana
If you know me you know I love a good podcast, and You’re Wrong About has become my new favorite! After eating up the Harry and Meghan Oprah interview a few weeks ago I lost myself down a British Royal Family rabbit hole. You’re Wrong About did an amazing five-part series on the life and legacy of Princess Diana, which is as wild and dishy as it is insightful and heartfelt. I recommend it highly!
Embroidery
With all the new time on my hands, I’ve been getting back into my favorite non-monetized, private, low-pressure hobby. I think we all (especially us Type A working artist types) really need creative outlets that don’t reflect on our bank account or our public reputation, which is it’s own kind of currency. Outside of occasionally putting process photos on my Instagram, I keep my embroidery to myself, choosing designs that spark joy and losing myself in the rhythmic meditation of stitching. It’s a great way to keep hands busy on those restless spring nights.
Turn by the Wombats
Nothing sounds like mid-twenties party-weary summer ache like the Wombats (okay, honorable mention to The 1975 and Bastille) and Turn is one of my favorite songs of theirs. It’s a cornerstone song for one of the relationships in my WIPs, and I swear my heart leaps up into my throat every time I hear the opening chords. Enjoy!
That’s all I have for you this time, beloveds, so be well until we two meet again! I’m sure I’ll be back in a few weeks to celebrate the DOWRY audiobook release with you all.
