EVOCATION hits Publisher’s Marketplace
The Publisher’s Marketplace deal report for The Summoner’s Circle series is live! I still cannot believe that I get to write four whole books full of tangled loves, city magic, ancestral secrets, and found family. These books have found such a loving, supportive home with Angry Robot. I’m the luckiest author!
A DOWRY OF BLOOD Out In Paperback (feat. a little treat)
I’m thrilled to be here with you, celebrating the release of the paperback edition of A DOWRY OF BLOOD! If you’re a US reader, the book will drop tomorrow Tuesday the 2nd, and if you’re a UK reader, the book will drop Thursday the 2nd. The paperback edition is just the right size to hold in your hands and features gorgeous ruby red foiling, PLUS it come with the first chapter of AN EDUCATION IN MALICE included in the backmatter. If you want to meet my newest characters well in advance, be sure to order your copy!
AN EDUCATION IN MALICE Updates
After holding my edits hostage for a ridiculously long time (all my love to my incredibly gracious and patient editor), I can finally say that developmental edits and copy edits on AN EDUCATION IN MALICE, my dark academia Carmilla retelling set in the sixties, are complete! Now it’s on to proofing and then, from there, on to the arc stage, so keep your eyes peeled for more news to come on that!
I have also seen a draft cover, and all I can say about that is I’m pretty much vibrating with excitement and absolutely bowled over by beauty.
50 Days Until the Les Petites Morts Anthology Goes Live!
We are a mere month and change away from LES PETITES MORTS, an anthology of erotic horror stories inspired by fairy tales, mythology, and folklore, publishing into the world! If you haven’t pre-ordered your copy yet, now is the time. It’s jam-packed with amazing authors and illustrations.
My contribution to the anthology is a spooky and sexy reimagining of the Welsh myth of Pwyll Prince of Dyfed, featuring princes in distress, faery bargains, unethical uses of glamour, bedroom power games, and of course, arranged marriage.
Events
I’m heading to Atlanta this weekend for the Atlanta Writer’s Conference! I’ll be there an an agenting capacity, sitting on panels, taking pitches, and workshopping first pages. If you’re at the conference, say hello!
In addition, I’ll be attending Romancelahoma in Oklahoma City this year on August 4th and 5th, and Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany on October 18th through 22nd.
Everything I’ve Been Loving Lately
A Solo Writing Retreat
Two weekends ago I took myself on a solo writing retreat to Marblehead on the coast of Massachusetts. The Hotel Marblehead was an amazing backdrop for my work. I wrapped myself up in the misty small seaside town atmosphere, ate some stunning food, and logged a lot of hours, I mean a lot, on revising EVOCATION and outlining and drafting the second book in the Summoner’s Circle series.
All told, I wrote 11,200 new words of the second book that weekend, and I finished my developmental edits on EVOCATION! It was well worth the investment, and proof that sometimes, all you need to power through a creative blocks is time alone with yourself and a renewed sense of commitment.
Springtime Reading
Spring has sprung here in beautiful old Boston, and I’ve read some delightful books recently. First up is The Fae Queen’s Captive by Sierra Simone. If you know me, you know I love a magical Sierra Simone romance, and this one certainly delivered on the promise of sultry bonkers goodness. If you’re craving some scorching sapphic scenes with a backdrop of faery court politics and ancient rituals, this one is for you! Next up, I devoured The Foxglove King by the one, the only, Hannah Whitten. A sumptuous and twisting fantasy set in a decadent and morally corroded court imbued with death magic, you don’t want to miss this one. Also, there’s a hot troubled priest in it. Need I say more? Finally, on the nonfiction side, I really enjoyed Deep Work by Cal Newport. If you’ve been looking for a way to trim distractions from your life, focus more, and be more productive without running yourself into this ground, this book is a great addition to your library.
That’s all I have for you this week, dear reader! I’ll be back soon with more tasty morsels of news. Until then, stay safe and well until we two meet again.
