Welcome back to the Epistle, all ye faithful. Light the sacred flame and sprinkle in a handful of resinous incense. I’ve got some updates for you today.

News

A DOWRY OF BLOOD preorders are 25% off for TODAY ONLY at Barnes and Noble! The sales ranking for this book has skyrocketed overnight, and I’m so thrilled! Grab your gorgeous gothic hardcover today through this link with the code PREORDER25! This is likely the best deal you’re going to get on this book before it published widely on October 4th!

Trade Reviews

Trade reviews are in for DOWRY and I’m so pleased with them! Coming from indie publishing, I’ve always coveted and feared trade reviews a little bit. It’s amazing to see this book featured in Publisher’s Weekly and Library Journal!

a Publisher's Weekly review, calling A DOWRY OF BLOOD "thorny, fast-paced, and unabashedly queer."
a Library Journal review, the verdict of which reads "perfect for readers interested in creative, gritty, and steamy horror retellings."

Companion Novel Update

I’m finally past the 40,000 word midpoint of the DOWRY OF BLOOD companion novel, which I hope to be able to formally announce details about in early 2023. Last week unlocked my villain’s tragic backstory in a scene that is both tender and twisted and I’m pretty much cackling with wicked writer glee about it. I can’t wait for you to meet these characters and be drawn into their autumnal world of poetry and passion. In the meanwhile, enjoy this teaser quote from a pivotal scene.

A quote which reads: She crept a little closer, kneeling at my side. Her curls looked like burnished brass in the candlelight, her full cheeks illuminated by the flickering glow. She looked, I realized a little breathlessly, like a holy icon cast in gold. I wanted to fall at her feet and worship her. I wanted to desecrate her in every filthy manner I could imagine. I wanted all of her, in every way, all at once.

Everything I’ve Been Loving Lately

Besides all the pumpkin flavors coming onto the scene and the slight chill in the Boston air, I’ve been enjoying tuning into weekly episodes of House of The Dragon. I petered out on Game Of Thrones after season one, it was just too brutal for me, but I’m enjoying this spin-off so far. I’m loving the front-row seat to all the drama, and it’s helping me pass the time while I sign tip-in sheets. A terrible dynasty of magical royals teetering on knife’s edge between madness and greatness? Yes please.

That’s all I have for you this week, dear reader! Be safe and well until we two meet again.
