Hello, beloved. Murmur the password at the door and then step into the forgiving darkness of the inner sanctum. It’s so good to see you again.
News
I know we missed each other during August, but to be quite honest, I haven’t had much publishing news to share. There’s so much going on behind the scenes I wish I could let you all in on, but nothing is real in publishing until contracts are signed, so we shall all just have to wait and see! I am able to share one exciting happening, however.
After a year in revision hell, I’m finally going on sub with the book I got signed with, EVOCATION, in a mere month! It's about secret societies, overcoming intergenerational trauma, and forging a magical family out of lovers and friends. Think poly CONSTANTINE meets NINTH HOUSE in Boston. It’s got exes to rivals to lovers, warring magicians, male/female friendship so powerful it’s literally magic, and declarations of love in summoning circles in it.
Eagle-eyed readers may notice that this is a continuation of the story of Rhys, Moira, and David from my very first novella, ODD SPIRITS. I can’t wait to get it into the hands of editors and I very much hope it’s picked up by a great publishing house so I can share it with you all in the future!
Also, the September tarot reading for writers is up on my Patreon! Patreon is the best place to find my mini essays and WIP excerpts, and all rewards are available for just $2 a month. If you like my newsletter, you’ll probably like my Patreon! I’ll be uploading an excerpt from EVOCATION there sometime soon!
Giveaways
To celebrate A DOWRY OF BLOOD’s six month anniversary (which we blew right past with me barely noticing), I’m giving away a signed paperback over on Instagram!
To enter, all you need to do is follow my Instagram over at stgibsonauthor and comment on this photo with your favorite romance trope. I’ll be choosing a winner on September 15th, and international entries are okay!
Everything I’ve Been Loving Lately
Bridgerton
Okay I can’t even tell you why I’m addicted to this show. It has some tropes in it I’m not a huge fan of (a virginial sheltered heroine, a jealous controlling brother, a mean breakup to “““protect””” the woman, and so on) and I’m still warming up to the characters but man, I am eating this series like candy. It looks gorgeous and the representation is so refreshing, especially in a Regency romance.
A Marvellous Light
Speaking of historical romances, I’ve been devouring an arc of A MARVELLOUS LIGHT by Freya Marske, which is an queer love story and murder mystery about Edwardian magicians. It’s an absolute delight and perfect for fans of KJ Charles. It’s billed as Red White & Royal Blue meets Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and I can’t tell you how perfectly accurate that is. Preorder, preorder, preorder!
That’s all I have for you this month, dear reader. I hope I’ll be able to write with good news soon, but until then, be so well until we two meet again.

the second book is much better than the first in my opinion so i’m soooo excited for the second season. my favourite book in the series is definitely the sixth book about francesca bridgerton who briefly appears in the first two episodes then leaves then comes back in like the last two episodes (i believe) and i can’t wait for the sixth season to finally see it adapted. the second book is my second favourite book
